Creative Holiday Care

by | Dec 6, 2021 | Stories

“According to songwriters Eddie Pola and George Wyle, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”  However, despite all the kids jingle belling and everyone telling you be of good cheer, all that marshmallow roasting, party hosting, and caroling out in the snow, the Holidays can also be one of the most stressful times of the year, especially for women.

This time of the year can be especially stressful for women because in addition to shouldering most of the responsibility for childcare, elder care, grocery shopping, meal preparation, cleaning, and laundry, they also handle most of the Holiday decorating, entertaining, and finding the perfect gifts for family and friends.

So, here are 3 techniques to reduce stress and increase good cheer during the Holidays:

  1. Make a list of all the tasks and responsibilities that you could use some help with this Holiday season such as childcare, elder care, grocery shopping, errands, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, decorating, entertaining, and finding the perfect gifts for family and friends.
  2. Ask family and/or friends for assistance with specific items on the list. Please note that this may not be easy or feel comfortable for those who have come to believe they need to sacrifice their own needs for the sake of others.
  3. Perform at least one “selfless” act of generosity, charity, compassion, kindness, or love. No matter how many resources we have, we all have something to give even it’s just a smile, complement, hug, or word of encouragement.
