Small Business Opportunity:  Hire Congressman Dean Phillips for a Day!

by | Apr 19, 2022 | Archived Reviews

Don’t miss this possibility to hire Dean Phillips for a day in your business.  What better way for Congressman Phillips to learn about your business? Do you see the opportunity to showcase your business and demonstrate your business challenges?

Congressman Dean Phillips represents Minnesota’s 3rd congressional district which encompasses the suburbs of Hennepin, Carver, and Anoka counties to the west, south, and north of Minneapolis. The district, which is mostly suburban in character, includes a few farming communities on its far western edge and inner-ring suburban areas on its eastern edge.

See Congressmen Phillips post below and the link to hire him for a day:

Hi Sylvia,

As a member of the House Small Business Committee – and a small business owner myself – supporting Minnesota’s extraordinary entrepreneurs is among my top priorities in Congress. When it comes to understanding the challenges of owning and operating a business, there’s no substitute for putting in a hard day’s work. That’s why I’ve been working shifts at businesses across our community for the past several months as part of our new “On the Job with Dean” project. I’m excited to share a firsthand look at my time on the job so far – and offer you the opportunity to put me to work for a day, too:

My inaugural shift was at Smith Coffee and Café in Eden Prairie, where I took orders, pulled espresso shots, bussed tables, and heard about how global policies are impacting small businesses in Minnesota. From pandemic relief to health insurance to supply chains, I’m taking what I learned at Smith back to Washington (and still working on my latte art in the meantime!). If you own or operate a business in Minnesota’s Third District and would like to host me for a shift as part of this project, click the link below to tell us a little more about what you do, and my team will follow up:

My second shift On the Job was at STAR in Brooklyn Park where I helped build, ship – and clean up after – elaborate trade show sets for clients all over the world. Companies like STAR rely on in-person gathering to keep their doors open, and when the pandemic hit, 90% of live events shut town almost overnight. During my visit, I learned just how much federal relief programs helped businesses that depend on people gathering to stay afloat during the pandemic, and how much work still needs to be done to support the recovery of our small business ecosystem.

I’m looking forward to introducing going On the Job alongside the people who make our community so special – and releasing additional web episodes along the way. New “On the Job with Dean” episodes will premiere on YouTubeFacebook, and Instagram, so follow along on whatever platform you prefer, and tell the entrepreneurs in your neck of the woods to offer me a job doing whatever it is they do best.

Importantly, my time On the Job with local restaurants, gyms, and live events businesses in particular has only reinforced the urgency of passing additional targeted relief for these hard-hit industries, for if we do not act soon it will be too late for too many. Last fall, I secured a commitment from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for a vote on a targeted relief bill for small businesses disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. After months of advocacy and tireless work, I’m pleased to announce that the U.S. House finally made good on our promise to small businesses by passing H.R. 3807, the Relief for Restaurants and Other Hard-Hit Industries Act. This bipartisan bill uses money clawed-back from fraudulently-obtained pandemic relief loans to refill the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) and resource a targeted program for other hard-hit industries.

There’s more work ahead of us, but I’m proud of the remarkable progress we have made to support our nation’s small businesses. In the meantime, if you own or operate a business in our community, or know someone who does, click here to offer me a job doing whatever it is you do best. After all, every business has a story to tell, and I want to hear yours!

Keep the faith and keep in touch,

Dean Phillips
Member of Congress
